East Side vs. West Side

For all of us that watch Gossip Girl, we know that the Upper East Side is the place to be. We’ve even heard Blair talk ewww at the Upper West Side in one episode. But now with NYC Prep we have Camille who lives on the Upper West Side. So why does Blair Waldorf have a problem with the Upper West Side? I’ll let you figure that out but I’ll give you some information along the way.
The Upper East Side:
Located in the borough of Manhattan and is between Central Park and the East River. The UES has some of the most expensive real estate in the United States. (The most expensive penthouse is listed for $75 million. The people of the UES are “perceived to be traditionally home to affluent commercial and business types.”
The racial makeup of the neighborhood was 88.25% White, 6.14% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 2.34% African American, 0.09% Native American, 1.39% from other races, and 1.74% from two or more races. 5.62% of the population were Hispanic of any race.
Museum Mile is also in the UES which includes: Goethe-Institut New York and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Movies and Television where you’ve seen the UES: Gossip Girl, The Jeffersons, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Nanny Diaries, Sex and The City, Cruel Intentions, Live and Let Die, The Jeffersons
The Upper West Side:
Also located in the borough of Manhattan and is located between Central Park and the Hudson River above 59th Street. Most of the residents work in Midtown or lower Manhattan. The UWS “has the reputation of being home to New York City’s affluent cultural and artistic workers.”
The UWS includes the theater district which includes The Lincoln Center: The Metropolitan Opera, Julliard School of Music, The School of American Ballet, Avery Fisher Hall
Movies and Television: Music and Lyrics, I am Legend, Night At The Museum, Single White Female, You’ve Got Mail, Law and Order, Mad About You, 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother
The UWS was also apart of my favorite SNL digital short Lazy Sunday (I can’t find the original so you’ll have to go with the remake):
